Surprised?

So, the theme of the day has been surprise. Fell asleep accidentally last night, woken up to surprise changes in the schedule of the first real relationship-end conversation since my break-up. So the discussion I had been dreading and developing butterflies over went NOWHERE near the direction I had anticipated. Not that I'm complaining, considering the outcome - the knowledge has lifted a huge weight off my chest. But occasionally, I'd like to not be completely blindsided by relationship issues, and have a conversation go relatively in the direction that I plan.

Continuing the 'surprise' and 'relationship' themes both, I saw my parents while they were in town, and not once developed the urge to belt my father upside the head. Even over little things. It was bizarre.

Apparently, the powers that be decided they really liked me today. I feel awfully lucky, all of a sudden. Good company and hanging out with ~S today, and S sending me links to good charities that I can donate some of my excess of mismatched household items to (so I don' t have to move any more stuff than necessary to my new place) didn't discourge my assessment of the day whatsoever. I'm a little unsure of what to do about that. A completely good day doesn't exist in the theory of my tiny world, unless it involves no people-issues, lots of tea, and quiet yet cuddly cats. And yet somehow... Maybe it's just my sleep deprivation talking here, who knows?

Also, in delaying the middle-of-the-night dismantling of my bookshelves, I found Nakir's soliloquy.

Tea is Love. ~dancing~

So, today has been a downer. And an upper. And everything inbetween. Ever had one of those days where you get everything you ask for? Today seems to be one of those days.

So, I started out with getting actual deliberate contact from my ex. With an offer of WTF explanations sometime during the next week, plus questions for me, etc... Which I'd been wanting to pester him for, but not really finding the time (in between trying to arrange my immediate future, living location, job, etc...) or the energy to do so. So I get that loose end tied up soon, finally.

I also got my birthday package in the mail, which was more a completion of the 'Thea needs to relax' package from S,D,G,L, and C&K&H. Tea is love. Tea cozies are love. Awesome octagonal asian-esque teapots are blissful, and when stockings and origami stationary and pretty cards are thrown in? Well.... just.. wow. *^_^*

And Hebe appreciated the bubble wrap packaging. Apparently chewing on plastic that explodes in your mouth is fun. Who knew?

Almost for-certain have an apartment. It's about 12 blocks (or thereabouts) from the WEM. Considering I hate malls, and am soon to live near one of the largest in N.A, I've come to the conclusion that Life must be gently mocking me.

Finishing character for gaming this weekend. Cats are currently very jealous of the keyboard, which is getting more 'petting' than they are. Now all I have to do is look for another job and pack. Which is a relief, because that's relatively little work, compared to the juggling act of the past two weeks. Although, looking around the office at my papers, I'm dreading packing this particular room. Oh well. I'll get people to come help me pack and save me from my house. :)

Honey is made from Commies!?!

The quote of the day is above, and from K, bless her evil little self.

So, said musical had the three of us convulsing in laughter, crying, throughout a large portion of the show. Because really, when a scene discussing terminator genes in plants ends in accusations of impotency and launches into a number starting with 'I feeel potent!/oh so potent!/'.... really. What else can you do?

Also, apparently there is a gay gene. Those of us with scientific knowledge (and some of us who don't) know better, but for the purpose of the musical, there is.

The choreography sucked, or at least, wasn't well done. The singing, with a couple exceptions, wasn't particularly great, even for an amateur production. But all is forgiven, due to the multiple entrances of Bio-Pirates. I suspect that I may be accompanying someone as the Bio-Pirate duo for Halloween. ~snickers~

Really, it was an awesome show, and I deeply regret not dragging more people to see the poorly produced and beautiful thing of awesomeness. I'm still giggling to myself. I'm going to see if I can get the lyrics to all the songs that weren't included in the program manual, for they are a thing of mocking sticking-in-my-head-ness.

Oh, and we got our lesbian love happy-ending scene at the end. I couldn't ask for more. :)

I will miss my library...

Wherever I am moving to, I lament that it will not be one block from a library anymore.

Yes, this week has been consumed with the apartment search, and work. Boo. Things move so quickly here, it's kind of annoying.

Anyways. This morning I actually got up and went to the farmer's market. Fresh veggies and BC pears and grapes... mmm....

Also! For all ye women out there, I have fortunous heraldings! There *is* actually a book that explains why men are so stupid sometimes. Anyone interested, email me and I shall pimp the book to you. It makes for good reading.

In other notes, my internet is still not working. I shall phone Telus and harass them, and if it's nothing on their end, then possibly bribe my brother with BC fruit to come over and fix it.

Not much else of note. I'm procrastinating the packing. The thought of staring at boxes for the next couple weeks is too depressing, especially since I don't know where I'm going to live yet.

And now, I'm off to see... 'A Splice of Life' - a musical about GMO's. Is that not one of the nerdiest things that could possibly be dreamt of? Curiousity was threatening to cause my head to explode if I didn't go and see how good/bad/geeky it will wind up being. K&H are good people, coming to accompany me and risk their short-term sense of good taste in the endeavor. :)

People rock.

As much as mayhap I've railed against the crappy people in my life, I've come to the conclusion that life is mocking me. Kindly perhaps, but nonetheless...

Upon moving to Edmonton, getting out and socializing much was daunting. Sometimes still is. For I don't *know* the people here. And I'm used to crappy people. However, the more I get out and do something other than hide under a rock, the more life mocks me by continuing to throw awesome people in my direction.

I'm still waiting for the other shoe to drop. But I'm not complaining. :)

Sunday night ST/ST plot ho/random-people-cuddling discussion night is a perfect example. The moment I want & need cuddly people in Edmonton with brains of mass twistiness that I can be comfortably geeky around, I get them. Being spoiled like that is nice.

And bespeaking of spoiled, gosh! G, L, S, D, C - you are full of the awesomeness of the world. Massages are love, and I love you for giving me them. I might even survive the packing of all my sh*t now that I can go someplace and get my back and shoulders fixed!

Also, now that I have too little time to get my own affairs comfortably in order, I find that S has both a *good* violin and a lap harp in her house, and that J-M can sing. I am going to organize a music learning/jam night or afternoon for the group of us who can sort-of-but-not-really/used-to-play-a-long-time-ago play either of said instruments. Who knows? J-M might even work a miracle and teach me how to sing. ~grins~ I will organize it if it kills me.

Weekend was good - no blisters from the rollerskating birthday party, either physical or social It was also the birthday party of S's past romantic involvment awkwardness! Yay! Occasionally being too clueless/uninformed to really get what was going on is really handy sometimes.

That aside, my 'unplanned' day today is already too full of stuff I know I won't completely finish, and I keep trying to add to it. Thus, I go about my day, and hope that at least one of my friends, somewhere, is learning something new and delightful and devious. :)

Overload! Yay!

I think I have officially reached the point of overload. Too much stuff to do, and too little time. Or rather, too little time due to the fact that I cannot spontaneously re-organize other people's schedules.

Let's see. Life at current point - broke, lacking birthday presents for family, all but around 20-30 hours of the entire next week is booked (assuming the bare minimal amount of sleep) with people and not job hunting or the searching part of house hunting, missing C and the letters I get from her, already racking up library overdue charges, eating better now that I'm the only person I'm buying food for in the house, developing a desire for far too many material things now that I have no relationship goals to strive towards and take precidence, seen far too much of my parents lately. And I think that's it. ~whew~ Stream of conciousness over now.

Seriously though - the moment a significant other is no longer in the picture, people just pounce on the chance to take up moments of my time. Not the I don't appreciate the attention from most people. Just not the overwhelming, swoop-in bird of prey style in which it's occasionally done (parents, single guys... ~sighs~). Or, as observed by recent parties, that guys I meet or know already automatically seem to think that since I'm single, I'll all-of-a-sudden find them absolutely fascinating and want to spend hours in their presence. Bah. Bah. Humbug.

On sillier happier notes, I found shinies! Howl's Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones has been made into anime by the producer of 'Spirited Away'. ~bliss~ Sooooon I shall possess thee, little DVD.

I think being in a long-term relationship seriously cut down on the overworking, overbooking, rampaging through life that my curiousity (and occasional insanity) induced in my life. Less stress and illness and neurotic development, but... I'm glad I lived on my own for as long as I did during university, because as much as I don't welcome the reason for it, being able to return to a familiar pattern is kinda nice. Or at least, not boring. Gods, left to my own devices and berefit of someone to act as entertainment, my life is anything boring. And I've only really gotten back into the swing of living this past week. Yeesh. Snowballing is going to be *so* much fun!

Plushicidal birthday happiness...

So, yesterday I went and had lunch with W and C. Such beautiful, awful people, and I miss them terribly. Frankly, I miss any witty intellectuals I knew back in S'toon, but them especially. A good time was had. But mostly, I just miss people who've known me for a while. When they show up on my doorstep, they don't greet me with 'Hi, how are you?' types of hellos. W hands me a serrated, curved tipped wicked looking little knife. Foolish man, he should know better! Then Carla hands me a teddy bear from behind her back and wishes me a happy birthday, in memory of the days of plushicidal sacrifice and the teddy bear head-hunters. Now, every time I open the cutlery drawer, I giggle. And if I ever reach a point of rage-filled menace, I have a plush animal in the house which I may rend.

On a related cute-fuzzy-animal note: now that Q is gone from the house, the cats have been sleeping on the bed with me again. But they're *sharing* it. They never share sleeping space. It's really weird. But adorable, to wake up and find them asleep with their little heads pressed together. Either they really miss Q, or they're really happy to have sleeping space next to their human again. Not sure which, but I'm really happy to wake next to the two bundles of furs.

Propaganda was made last night for S and J-M's new mage game. I have an official title! I get to be a cheif instigator (ie ST plot ho). It makes me happy. Plus, I get to listen to ST meetings that way. Those are always entertaining.

Must go make myself presentable for family birthday supper (not mine, brother's). Adieu!

No sleep helps.

So, Quinn and moving posse were here this morning to haul all his stuff out. We have almost all of it gone. I'm sure I'll gradually keep finding more of his stuff around, but for all intents and purposes, the house is now mine.

I kind of thought I'd get freaked out by the moving out of his stuff. Kind of like it was final proof of the situation. So I stayed and made myself help and watch and such. But surprisingly, it was relieving. As though he had just lifted a bunch of the cognitive dissonance away when he took his stuff. We still haven't talked beyond logistics of him moving out or the inital break-up conversation, so I still don't really know what the heck is going on with him. Well, beyond what I've snooped and found out on my own. Not comforting in the slightest, and I still need some explaination from him about some of this, and a chance to have a conversation to resolve this and figure out what he wants us to be from now on.

Went to D's birthday party last night. Didn't know more than him and one of the other chef's from work, but that was alright. Beer paved my social road, and the people there all seemed to be good people. I do regret getting home at 5 am. I'm sure I'll regret that once I get to work at 3 this afternoon.

Don't know what else is new. S'toon people are down here this weekend, so I'm all booked up and am sure I won't get any productive house hunting or job hunting work done, but c'est la vie.

Tired now. Going to nap again.
